🚨 A JUDGE’S LINE THAT RESET THE RESERVATION DEBATE
In a separate but concurring opinion delivered in October 2025, Justice Pankaj Mithal of the Supreme Court of India made a blunt observation:
👉 Reservation benefits should ideally stop with the first generation.
Hearing a case on sub-classification within SC/ST categories, Justice Mithal argued that reservation is a tool for initial empowerment—not a hereditary entitlement. Once a family has already benefited and achieved social or economic advancement, extending the same advantage to subsequent generations becomes hard to justify.
