A fresh debate over the Battle of Haldighati has once again revived one of India’s longest-standing historical questions.
The discussion gained momentum after RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat said that Maharana Pratap should be considered the true victor of the Battle of Haldighati, arguing that the conflict has been misunderstood for generations.
Fought in 1576, the battle saw Maharana Pratap of Mewar confront the Mughal army led by Raja Man Singh on behalf of Emperor Akbar. Many historians describe the clash as a tactical Mughal victory, mainly because Maharana Pratap withdrew from the battlefield.
