🚨 Just ₹2 Extra — And the Restaurant Faced a ₹1 Lakh Penalty!
A customer in Uttar Pradesh took a restaurant to the Consumer Commission after being charged ₹20 for a packaged water bottle whose printed MRP was ₹18.
The case may have involved only ₹2 — but the Commission treated it as an unfair trade practice.
⚖️ The Aligarh District Consumer Commission ordered the Hathras restaurant to:
• Deposit ₹1 lakh in the Consumer Welfare Fund
• Pay ₹1,000 to the customer for harassment
• Pay ₹5,000 towards litigation expenses
The Commission relied on the restaurant bill and a photograph showing the bottle’s ₹18 MRP.
