The Meghalaya Pollution Control Board has fined NHIDCL ₹15 lakh for causing serious environmental damage.
The famous Dawki–Umngot River, once known for its crystal-clear waters, has now turned muddy after construction debris and soil from the Shillong–Dawki road project polluted several parts of the river.
This loss of clarity has raised major concerns among local communities, environmental groups, and tourism operators.
