In a significant step to protect the religious sanctity of the holy city, the Ayodhya administration has enforced a strict ban on the sale and delivery of non-vegetarian food and liquor within a 15-km radius of the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple. The order, effective from January 9, 2026, also brings online food delivery platforms under its scope after repeated complaints from locals and pilgrims about meat being transported through the sacred Panchkosi Parikrama route.
Assistant Food Commissioner Manik Chandra Singh stated that all hotels, homestays, and local vendors in the restricted zone have been clearly warned. Any violation—whether physical sale or doorstep delivery—will invite immediate legal action along with cancellation of licenses. While non-veg food and alcohol were already restricted along key stretches such as the 14-km Ram Path, this new “digital boundary” ensures that online deliveries do not bypass the rules.
As Ayodhya continues to grow as a major spiritual centre of India, the move is being seen as a firm effort to preserve its sacred atmosphere. The decision has also sparked discussion nationwide, with many wondering whether other prominent pilgrimage towns may soon adopt a similar “pure zone” model. 🚩🚫🥩
