Strong tremors were felt across Kolkata on Tuesday evening after a 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck neighbouring Myanmar, sending shockwaves through eastern India and Bangladesh. Though the epicentre was outside the city, residents in areas like Salt Lake, New Town, Howrah and central Kolkata reported fans swinging, windows rattling and furniture vibrating for a few seconds.
There have been no reports of damage or major injuries in Kolkata so far, but the brief shaking triggered panic, with many rushing outdoors. Seismology agencies, including the National Center for Seismology, confirmed the quake and continued monitoring, as the incident once again raised concerns over earthquake preparedness in the city.😳🚨
