Rahibai Soma Popere, lovingly known as the “Seed Mother,” is doing exactly that. From the small village of Kombhalne in Maharashtra, she started a powerful movement to protect indigenous seeds and promote sustainable farming.
Without any formal education, Rahibai learned everything from years of working on farms. She noticed that hybrid crops and chemical fertilizers were slowly replacing traditional seeds. At the same time, the nutrition and health of people in her village were declining.
