Across Africa, one of the most ambitious environmental projects ever is taking shape. More than 22 countries are working together on the Great Green Wall, an 8,000 km stretch of restored land designed to slow the spread of the Sahara Desert.
But it’s not just about planting trees. The project now focuses on restoring entire ecosystems, farmland, grassland, and water systems to support communities. While progress has been made, experts say challenges like funding gaps and harsh conditions still remain. Even so, the effort represents hope for millions whose future depends on the land.
