R. Vaishali recently won the FIDE Women's Candidates Tournament 2026, marking a historic first for an Indian woman.She clinched the title on April 15, 2026, in Cyprus by defeating Russia's Kateryna Lagno in 48 moves with the white pieces during the final 14th round.
Vaishali finished with 8.5 points, half a point ahead of Bibisara Assaubayeva, after starting as one of the lowest-rated players.
