A remarkable Shiva Damaru-inspired gallery is taking shape at the upcoming Varanasi Cricket Stadium, creating one of the most unique sporting venues ever built in India. Designed to reflect the spiritual and cultural identity of Kashi, the stadium blends world-class sports infrastructure with symbols deeply associated with Lord Shiva and the city's ancient heritage.
Located in the Ganjari area of Varanasi, the state-of-the-art stadium is being developed by the BCCI on a sprawling 30-acre campus and will have a seating capacity of around 30,000 spectators.
What makes the venue truly extraordinary is its architecture. The main stadium structure is inspired by Lord Shiva's sacred Damaru, while the towering floodlights are designed in the shape of Trishuls. The grand entrance gate reflects the form of Belpatra leaves, considered sacred in Shiva worship, and elegant crescent moon motifs adorn sections of the roof.
Even the spectator seating arrangement draws inspiration from the iconic steps of the Varanasi Ganga Ghats, ensuring that the essence of Kashi is visible throughout the complex.
As construction moves toward its final stages, the project is already attracting widespread admiration for seamlessly combining faith, culture, architecture, and modern sports development.
