A deeply distressing case from Gujarat’s Valsad district has once again highlighted the urgent need to strengthen child safety and protection.
The case was reported from the Dungra area of Vapi, where a six-year-old girl went missing on October 23, 2023. Following an intensive investigation, Gujarat Police arrested the accused, Razaak Khan, on October 25. Evidence collected during the investigation, including CCTV footage and forensic findings, played an important role in the legal proceedings.
On December 4, 2025, a Vapi court convicted the accused and awarded him the death penalty under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the POCSO Act. The court also directed that financial compensation be provided to the victim’s family.
The judgment has been viewed by many as a strong legal response to crimes against children. At the same time, this heartbreaking case reminds us that protecting children is a shared responsibility.
Greater awareness, responsible supervision, safer public spaces and prompt reporting of suspicious activity can help prevent such trage****s. Justice has been delivered through the legal process, but the loss suffered by the child’s family can never truly be repaired.
