West Bengal has rolled out a digital spot-fine system across Kolkata and other cities to tackle public nuisances. Effective September 1, 2026, people can face a ₹100 fine for public spitting, while littering, public urination or defecation, and using banned single-use plastic carry bags under 125 microns can attract a ₹200 fine.
The move aims to promote cleaner and more responsible public spaces through stricter enforcement. If implemented consistently, such measures could encourage better civic habits across cities.
