Durga Puja celebrations are underway at Chandigarh Kalibari in Sector 47, one of the city’s most prominent centres of Bengali religious and cultural life. Established in 1970, Kalibari becomes a major gathering point during Durga Puja, bringing together devotees from Chandigarh and the wider Tricity for traditional rituals, pushpanjali, bhog and cultural programmes.
The 2026 festivities began with Shashthi on October 16 and continue through Bijoya Dashami on October 21. Mornings at Kalibari are centred around worship and flower offerings to Maa Durga, while community bhog remains an important part of the Puja experience. Evenings bring a distinctly Bengali festive atmosphere with the sound of dhak, music, dance and cultural performances.
This year’s cultural programme has also included “Swayangsiddha,” a dance drama presented by Kalibari Chandigarh Production. Conceptualised and directed by Amrita Ganguly and choreographed by Archita Palit, the production explored women’s identity, dignity and freedom as part of Friday evening’s Puja celebrations.
For Chandigarh’s Bengali community, Kalibari’s Durga Puja continues to be more than a religious celebration — it is also a meeting point for faith, Bengali culture, food, music and community traditions, recreating the spirit of Pujo in the heart of the City Beautiful.
