Servitors Climb 214-Foot Jagannath Temple Spire Amid Cyclone Arnab
Despite heavy rain and strong winds caused by Cyclone Arnab, three servitors at Odisha’s Puri Jagannath Temple reportedly climbed its 214-foot-high spire to perform the daily Dhwaja Parivartan ritual.
The specially trained Chunara servitors made the challenging ascent barefoot and without safety equipment, continuing a centuries-old religious tradition despite the difficult weather conditions.
At the temple, the sacred flag is c****ed every day, regardless of the weather. The ritual holds deep religious significance for devotees, making its uninterrupted performance a powerful display of faith and commitment.
The servitors’ determination has drawn attention to the dedication required to preserve the temple’s long-standing traditions. Their remarkable effort highlights how deeply devotion and cultural heritage are woven into the spiritual life surrounding one of India’s most revered temples.
