China Builds 945-Foot Glass Elevator to Help Schoolchildren Reach Their School
A remarkable infrastructure project in China's Yunnan Province is making life easier for schoolchildren living in the mountainous Nizhuhe Grand Canyon region.
A 288-metre (approximately 945-foot) glass elevator, named the 'Fuyao Ladder', has been built to help children travel to school more safely and quickly.
The area also features the 'Kingyun Ladder', a 268-metre (879-foot) elevator constructed in 2022.
Together, the elevators, shuttle buses and cable cars have transformed the daily commute for local students. What was once a dangerous three-hour journey through challenging mountain terrain can now be completed in just 30 minutes.
The project is a remarkable example of how infrastructure development can improve access to education and make everyday life safer for children in remote mountain communities.
