मेवाड़ के महाराणा राजसिंह जी व छत्रपति शिवाजी महाराज ने जजिया का भारी विरोध किया था, क्योंकि यह टैक्स न केवल गरीब हिंदुओं को शोषित करने वाला था, बल्कि इसे वसूला जाना भी अपमानजनक था। टैक्स देने वाले व्यक्ति को खुद नंगे पांव चलकर झुककर यह टैक्स अदा करना पड़ता था।
जजिया के विरोध में महाराणा राजसिंह ने 1679 से 1680 ई. तक एक वर्ष तक मेवाड़ में अनेक मुगलों का रक्त बहाया, लेकिन जजिया के नाम पर मुगलों को फूटी कौड़ी न दी।
