सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने प्राइवेट अस्पतालों के जरिए वसूले जाने वाले मनमानी पैसे को लेकर नाराजगी व्यक्त की है. अदालत ने 14 साल पुराने कानून 'क्लिनिकल एस्टेब्लिशमेंट (सेंट्रल गवर्नमेंट)' नियमों को लागू करने में केंद्र की असमर्थता को लेकर कड़ी आपत्ति जताई. नियमों के तहत राज्यों से सलाह के बाद महानगरों, शहरों और कस्बों में बीमारियों के इलाज और उपचार के लिए एक स्टैंडर्ड रेट का नोटिफिकेशन जारी करना अनिवार्य है.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने चेतावनी देते हुए कहा, 'अगर केंद्र सरकार इस समस्या का समाधान ढूंढने में विफल होती है, तो हम देशभर में मरीजों के इलाज के लिए CGSH-निर्धारित स्टैंडर्ड रेट को लागू करने के लिए याचिकाकर्ता की याचिका पर विचार करेंगे.'
