रकुल प्रीत सिंह का जन्म 10 अक्टूबर 1990 को नई दिल्ली में हुआ था। वह एक पंजाबी परिवार से ताल्लुक रखती हैं। उनके पिता कुलविंदर सिंह भारतीय सेना में कर्नल रहे हैं और उनकी माँ रीना सिंह एक गृहिणी हैं। रकुल का एक छोटा भाई भी है – अमन प्रीत सिंह, जो अभिनय की दुनिया में अपनी पहचान बना रहे हैं।

रकुल की पढ़ाई दिल्ली में हुई। उन्होंने आर्मी पब्लिक स्कूल, धौला कुआं से स्कूलिंग पूरी की और बाद में जीसस एंड मैरी कॉलेज (दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय) से गणित (Mathematics) में ऑनर्स की डिग्री हासिल की। पढ़ाई के दौरान ही वह मॉडलिंग की ओर आकर्षित हुईं और उन्होंने कई विज्ञापनों व ब्यूटी पेजेंट्स में हिस्सा लिया।
