गाजियाबाद के लोनी इलाके में प्रदूषण का स्तर बेहद गंभीर हो गया है, जहां एयर क्वालिटी इंडेक्स 300 के करीब है और PM2.5 का स्तर WHO के मानकों से 22 गुना अधिक है. अवैध उद्योग, धूल और दिल्ली से आने वाला प्रदूषण मिलकर हवा को जहरीला बना रहे हैं, जिससे स्थानीय लोग सांस की बीमारियों से जूझ रहे हैं. विधायक नंद किशोर गुर्जर ने अवैध उद्योगों पर सख्त कार्रवाई का आश्वासन दिया है. वहीं, स्थानीय लोग परेशान हैं और प्रशासन से तत्काल कार्रवाई की मांग कर रहे हैं.

आईक्यूएयर की वर्ल्ड एयर क्वालिटी रिपोर्ट 2025 के अनुसार, लोनी दुनिया का सबसे प्रदूषित शहर बन गया है. यहां का वार्षिक औसत PM2.5 स्तर 112.5 µg/m³ दर्ज किया गया जो विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन (WHO) के दिशा-निर्देश (5 µg/m³) से 22 गुना ज्यादा है. ये स्तर पिछले साल की तुलना में करीब 23 प्रतिशत बढ़ा है.

रिपोर्ट की माने तो दुनिया के 10 सबसे प्रदूषित शहरों में से पांच भारत के हैं, जिनमें लोनी के साथ दिल्ली चौथे और गाजियाबाद भी शामिल है. जलवायु परिवर्तन और जंगलों की आग ने भी इस साल वैश्विक हवा की गुणवत्ता को बिगाड़ने में बड़ी भूमिका निभाई है.
