Chetna and I had the pleasure of visiting the school of Shri Narinder Pal Singh Narang, an industrialist and member of the Himachal Olympic Association, who kindly facilitated our visit to Shri Paonta Sahib Gurudwara on 24th February, 2026.
In addition to his business ventures, he is doing commendable work in education through three schools ‘THE SCHOLARS HOME’ in Paonta Sahib with around 1,500 students. He and his wife graciously hosted us for lunch at the school and presented us with traditional Himachali gifts.
We also visited the statue of Hari Singh Nalwa in the school compound, inaugurated by Lt General KJS Dhillon (Tiny Dhillon) on 1st October 2025.
Hari Singh Nalwa, a celebrated general under Maharaja Ranjit Singh, played a key role in securing the north-western frontiers of the Sikh Empire and served as Governor of Peshawar. Known for his bravery and leadership, his reputation inspired widespread fear across the frontier.
Popular folklore suggests that some Afghan tribesmen even disguised themselves in women’s attire, wearing salwar and burqa, to avoid being identified as fighters when his forces were nearby. While largely part of oral tradition, it reflects the deep impact he left on the region.

13 साल की लंबी रात…
और एक पिता का अटूट संघर्ष।
गाज़ियाबाद का 32 साल का हरीश एक हादसे के बाद कोमा में चला गया।
डॉक्टरों ने कहा
अब उसके ठीक होने की उम्मीद बहुत कम है।
लेकिन एक पिता के लिए उम्मीद कभी खत्म नहीं होती…
माँ हर दिन बेटे को घर की बातें सुनाती थी,
उसे लगता था शायद एक दिन बेटा आँख खोलकर जवाब देगा।
पिता हर दिन उसके सिर पर हाथ फेरते…
उससे बातें करते…
और भगवान से बस एक ही दुआ माँगते
“मेरे बेटे को ठीक कर दो।”
इलाज के लिए उन्होंने सब कुछ लगा दिया…
घर बेच दिया, जमीन बेच दी, जमा-पूँजी खत्म हो गई…
लेकिन बेटे को बचाने की कोशिश नहीं छोड़ी।
दिन बीतते गए…
महीने बीत गए…
और देखते ही देखते 13 साल गुजर गए।
अब हालात इतने मुश्किल हो गए थे कि
घर में इलाज के लिए कुछ भी नहीं बचा था।
दिल पर पत्थर रखकर
उस पिता ने सरकार से इच्छा-मरण (Mercy Killing) की अपील कर दी।
वह अपने बेटे को दर्द में तड़पते नहीं देख पा रहा था…
और आखिर में भारी मन से कहा
“अब उसे भगवान की गोद में छोड़ रहे हैं…”
क्योंकि एक बाप हार नहीं मानता…
वह बस अपने बच्चों के दर्द को खुद सह लेता है।
सच यही है
बाप उम्मीद से नहीं,
अपने बच्चों के प्यार से जीता है। ❤️
