आंध्र प्रदेश के कोनासीमा जिले में ONGC के एक चालू तेल कुएं से बड़े पैमाने पर गैस लीक हो गई। इससे पूरे इलाके में दहशत फैल गई। घटना तब हुई, तब कुएं में कुछ समय के लिए प्रोडक्शन बंद होने के बाद वर्कओवर रिग का इस्तेमाल करके मरम्मत किया जा रहा था।
मरम्मत के दौरान एक जौरदार धमाका हुआ और कच्चे तेल के साथ मिली हुई गैस भारी मात्रा में मिली और हवा में बहुत ऊपर तक चली गई। यह तेल का कुआं कोनासीमा के राजोल इलाके के इरुसुमंडा गांव में है।
स्थानी अधिकारियों के मुताबिक, लीक हुई गैस में तुरंत आग लग गई। ये देखकर आस-पास रहने वाले लोग और अधिकारी भी घबरा गए। गैस और धुएं का बादल सुमंडा और आसपास के इलाकों में घने कोहरे की तरह फैल गया। स्थानीय प्रशासन ने तुरंत पास के गांव खाली करवा लिए।
कई लोग पहले ही घरों से भाग गए। वे अपने मवेशियों को भी सुरक्षित जगह पर ले गए। लोगों से बिजली का इस्तेमाल न करने, बिजली के उपकरण चालू न करने और चूल्हा न जलाने को कहा गया है। ONGC के कर्मचारी लीक को कंट्रोल करने और आग बुझाने के लिए मौके पर मौजूद हैं।
