श्रीलंका ने मार्च की शुरुआत में अमेरिका के 2 लड़ाकू विमानों को अपने क्षेत्र में उतारने की अनुमति देने से साफ इनकार कर दिया था। राष्ट्रपति अनुरा कुमारा दिसानायके ने शुक्रवार को संसद में इस बारे में जानकारी साझा की। उन्होंने बताया कि जिबूती से आए 2 अमेरिकी लड़ाकू विमानों ने 4 और 8 मार्च को मट्टाला अंतरराष्ट्रीय हवाई अड्डे पर लैंडिंग की अनुमति मांगी थी, लेकिन दोनों अनुरोधों को ठुकरा दिया गया था। राष्ट्रपति दिसानायके ने संसद को संबोधित करते हुए कहा कि विमान 8 एंटी-शिप मिसाइलों से लैस थे। ये जिबूती स्थित अमेरिकी अड्डे से संचालित हो रहे थे। उन्होंने जोर देकर कहा कि विभिन्न प्रकार के दबावों के बावजूद श्रीलंका अपनी तटस्थ नीति को बनाए रखना चाहता है। “हम झुकेंगे नहीं। मध्य-पूर्व में चल रहे युद्ध ने हमारे सामने कई चुनौतियां खड़ी कर दी हैं, लेकिन तटस्थ बने रहने के लिए हम हर संभव प्रयास करेंगे।”
