In a major development, the Ministry of Home Affairs (India) has announced a relief measure for certain non-Muslim migrants who entered India from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. According to the decision, Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis, and Christians who arrived in India due to religious persecution before December 31, 2024, will be allowed to stay in the country even if they do not have valid passports or travel documents.

मेजर संदीप उन्नीकृष्णन की कहानी साहस और समर्पण की मिसाल है। 12 मार्च 1977 को केरल के कोड़िकोड में जन्मे संदीप का बचपन बेंगलुरु में बीता, जहाँ उन्होंने पढ़ाई और खेलों में उत्कृष्ट प्रदर्शन किया। उनका सपना हमेशा भारतीय सेना में सेवा करने का था। 1995 में नेशनल डिफेंस एकेडमी में प्रवेश के बाद उन्होंने इंडियन मिलिट्री एकेडमी से 1999 में पासआउट होकर लेफ्टिनेंट के रूप में भारतीय सेना में सेवा शुरू की। करगिल युद्ध में उन्होंने वीरता दिखाते हुए पाकिस्तानी सेना को पीछे धकेला और महत्वपूर्ण पोस्ट हासिल किया।
संदीप ने बाद में कैप्टन और फिर मेजर का पद प्राप्त किया, और स्पेशल कमांडो प्रशिक्षण हासिल किया। उन्होंने सियाचिन, जम्मू-कश्मीर, राजस्थान और गुजरात में सेवा दी और राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा गार्ड (NSG) में स्पेशल एक्शन ग्रुप के ट्रेनिंग ऑफिसर बने।
26 नवंबर 2008 को मुंबई हमलों के दौरान, मेजर संदीप ताज होटल में आतंकवादियों से लड़ते हुए 14 बंधकों की जान बचाई, लेकिन खुद शहीद हो गए। उनकी शहादत के लिए उन्हें मरणोपरांत अशोक चक्र से सम्मानित किया गया। बेगुलुरु में उनकी स्मृति में समाज और सोसाइटी ने उन्हें श्रद्धांजलि अर्पित की। संदीप की बहादुरी और देशभक्ति आज भी प्रेरणा देती है।
